What we collect
Your mobile number, so you can sign in. Your first and last name. If you are a student, your date of birth — the app works out your age from it — and, only if you choose to give it, your gender. What you read, save and finish, so your points, streak and credentials are the same on every device. What you write in a sprint, in the room, or to the mentor.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your school, your address or your email. We do not read your contacts, your photos or your location. There is no advertising in Nirvana and no advertising identifier.
Cookies on the website
The website sets two cookies that keep you signed in, and nothing else. They cannot be read by the page’s own scripts, and signing out removes them. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.
Who can see what you write
Posts in the room are visible to other students reading the same story, under your full name. Your date of birth and gender are never shown to other students. Sprints and mentor conversations are private to you. Removed posts stay visible as removed, with the rule that was applied, and without their text.
The AI mentor
When the mentor is switched on, what you write in that conversation is sent to the AI service that generates its replies, along with the story, including its full text from the publisher when available. When no AI service is configured the mentor is offline and nothing leaves this service.
Speaking to the mentor on the website
Voice input uses your browser’s own speech recognition, not ours. In Chrome and Edge that audio is processed by the browser maker’s speech service. Typing instead sends no audio anywhere.
News articles
Headlines and short extracts come from publishers’ public feeds and are shown with attribution and a link to the original. Stories labelled as samples are written for development and are not reports by any news organisation.
How long we keep it
Saved news is removed automatically 90 days after you save it. Your account and its history stay until you ask us to delete them, and deleting the account removes your posts, sprints and mentor threads.
Students under 18
Nirvana is built for school and college students, so many readers are minors. Under India’s DPDP Act, processing a child’s data needs verifiable parental consent, and this build does not yet collect it. That gap is known and is being worked on before public release.
